Foundation Highlights

Burrough Of The Gleann Museum establishes Trust Fund

The Burrough of the Gleann Museum in Glenboro has established a Manitoba Heritage Trust Program (MHTP) Fund.

The purpose of the MHTP is to provide annual funds to support heritage organizations such as museums and archives throughout the Province. The MHTP, which is administerred by the Winnipeg Foundation for the Province, runs until March 31, 2021. Through this program, the province will provide one dollar for every two dollars donated to the Heritage-Burrough of the Gleann Fund. For the duration of the Program, the Winnipeg Foundation will receive and receipt any donations. After 2021, monies donated to the Fund will be received and receipted by The Glenboro Foundation. The Burrough of the Gleann Museum partnered with the Municipality of Glenboro South Cypress, the Glenboro Area Foundation and The Winnipeg Foundation to establish the Heritage-Burrough of the Gleann Fund. The Glenboro Foundation designated monies from the estate of Ken and Beulah Thompson to initiate the Fund, which will be permanently endowed with the Foundation.

The Burrough of the Gleann Museum opened its doors in 2000 in a building which was built in 1974 to house the School Division on Broadway Street in Glenboro. The Museum provides a glimpse into the lives of early settlers of the Glenboro South Cypress area from the late 1800s to the early post-WWII years. The Museum contains an extensive collection of artifacts donated by the community, which have been organized into displays depicting this period of the community’s history.

At the present time, the Museum Board continues to enhance the exhibits by identifying all the artifacts, and by explaining what is known about them. Planning for the summer includes an open house with refreshments served on the lawn, a return of Hamburger Days, and a special exhibit, which focuses on a specific individual, family, or event.
